Four of the Best: Luxury Hotels in Val d’Isere

Val d’Isère is one of our favourite resorts – and we are not alone – it’s widely regarded as one of the best ski resorts in the world.  So which are the best luxury hotels in Val d’Isère?

Why Val d’Isère?

It’s easy to see why people love this resort.  The ‘Espace Killy’ ski area covers all of Val d’Isère and Tignes on one ski pass – that’s 300km of skiing to keep you busy.

Val d’Isere has a great snow record

You can ski the World Cup and 1992 Olympic downhill runs at La Daille or La Face…with rests, of course.   Or go tree skiing in Le Fornet if the weather is bad.

And at the end of the day, a stop at the Folie Douce is an essential part of any Val d’Isère ski holiday.  The atmosphere is unlike any other – chic cabaret, fine food and dancing on the tables.  Whether you join in or just watch on, it’s fantastic entertainment.

So where should you stay?

There are plenty of options for luxury hotels in Val d’Isère.  These are four of the best:

1. The Hotel Avenue Lodge

This five-star hotel is our personal favourite.  Its minimalist style, plus the location right in the centre of the resort won us over.  Add to that a spa, swimming pool and all round ultra modern look put it to the top of our list.

2. The Tsanteleina

This family run hotel is much more the traditional chalet-style hotel that many expect from the Alps.  Yet standards could not be higher.   It’s a four-star hotel right into the centre of town with superb spa facilities and an indoor pool.  La Table des Neiges restaurant is top quality and their Friday night seafood buffet is legendary.

3. Hotel Kandahar

Although a three-star hotel, the Hotel Kandahar remains a great location for a stay in Val d’Isère.  First built in 1954 and renovated throughout in 1994, it has the charm of a mountain chalet, with hand-carved furniture and historical mementos on the walls.

4. Hotel Christiana

Another five-star hotel the Hotel Christiana is a regular award winner and for good reason.  Top quality are the words you think of when you look at this hotel, whether it’s the service, the glamour or the restaurant food curated by chef Philippe Meyzin.  A regular haunt for celebrities in resort, the Christiana should be on everyone’s list.
