    • With the gondola lift leading up to some of the best ski resorts on Kronplatz Mountain and the famous Sellaronda ski circuit located right on Hotel Excelsior’s doorstep – or at the cellar ski depot door, to be precise – there are no concerns about long walks to the slopes in your skiing equipment.

      With the majority of its interiors crafted using natural materials, the hotel combines a traditional ski-lodge atmosphere with a crisp modernity. Each room has a unique design, complemented by the captivating mountainous scenery beyond your private balcony. In addition to modern furnishings and a plush double bedspread, each room is fitted with a luxury bathroom, while larger suites also include a spacious living area and extra room and bathroom, spread across two floors.

      When you’re not relaxing in your room, the hotel has plenty of communal spaces to unwind and get to know some of the other guests staying. Whether you decide on an after-dinner drink in the stylish bar, snuggle up in the fireplace room, socialise in the traditional cigar room or catch some winter sun on the wooden sun terrace, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. There is also the hotel’s impressive dining room, surrounded by more spectacular scenery, and providing a menu that infuses Mediterranean cooking with local flavours.

      In addition to its fantastic ski links – the gondola lift leading up to the Kronplatz Mountain and the renowned Sellaronda ski circuit is located just a stone’s throw from the hotel – the resort also has its own gym suite, spa resort and organises a number of fitness classes including pilates, dance and mixed aerobics. So plenty to keep eager guests occupied when not on the slopes.

    • The 47 spacious rooms at the Excelsior are elegant and modern in style enhanced with natural materials that are in-keeping with the South Tyrolean region. Added to that the rooms boast wonderful views of the Dolomites.

      All rooms feature a balcony or terrace and are equipped with a flat screen TV, free internet connection, telephone, safe, mini-bar, hairdryer and a backpack that guests are welcome to borrow.

      Fanes Room: A comfortable light and airy double room with natural pine furnishings, a bathroom with a bath or shower and a single sofa bed. The Fanes room can sleep up to three people and is approx. 22-25m2.

      Pares Room: Also featuring natural pine furnishings, the Pares room features a double bed, a bathroom with a bath tub and double sofa bed. The Pares room can accommodate up to four people and is approx. 33m2.

      Deluxe Lavarella Room: Features a double bed and a living area with a double sofa bed. Some of the rooms include include a wood-burning stove. The bathroom has a bath tub or shower and there is a terrace or balcony with panoramic views. Some rooms can be interconnecting. The Lavarella Room can accommodate up to four people and is approx. 37m2.

      Fodara Suite: Located over the two levels, the Fodara Suite has a two double bedrooms and a living area, a bathroom with a bath tub and some rooms have a second bathroom. There is a balcony with panoramic views to San Vigilio and the Dolomites. The Fodara Suite can accommodate up to four people and is approx. 55m2.

      Conturines Suite: Also split over two levels the Conturines Suite is ideal for families. Built of natural pine the suite features a living room, double room and bathroom with shower on the lower level. Upstairs there is a double room with a flatscreen TV, bathroom with bathtub and a balcony with panoramic views to San Vigilio. The Conturines Suite can accommodate up to six people and is approx. 75m2.

      The fun and interactive Summer Adventure kids club offers a range of exciting activities to ensure children enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings around the hotel. Activities include a weekly children’s picnic with climbing course, children’s walks, a visit to South Tyrol’s biggest rope course at Issing, farm visits, adventure trips in the woods, craft workshops, face painting, movie nights and a junior kids club disco.

      Children’s Activities: The hotel also boasts a children’s playground, a children’s swimming pool and an adventure park which includes a tree house and ropeway.

      Additional Children’s Facilities: The owners really have thought of everything when it comes to families including child-friendly cutlery, chairs and meals in the restaurant, cots and children’s bathrobes and slippers.

    • Restaurant: Under the expert guidance of Masterchef Rino de Candido  (one of the few Italian chefs to have earned the Masterchef title awarded by the World Association of Chefs Societies), guests will enjoy delicious gourmet cuisine that combines the best of the ancient traditional Ladin and South Tyrolean recipes with Mediterranean cuisine served in the traditional Alpine dining room. Rino’s philosophy is to create innovative dishes with a focus on health and vitality whether guests choose to dine a la carte or from the delicious buffets. The meals are complimented by the wide choice of wine available from the private wine cellar, managed by Irene the in-house sommelier.

      Spa: The magnificent Castello di Dolasilla spa, is located over five levels and offers a superb range of facilities included in the price of your stay. Guests are spoilt for choice with three different saunas, steam bath, salt brine inhalation grotto, tepidarium, experiential and Kneipp pools, heated water beds and an infrared cabin. There is also a wide range of treatments and therapies that can be enjoyed in the five spa areas: Crystal Spa (beauty and well-being area in a crystal design), Zirben (Swiss Stone Pine) Spa (for Alpine treatments), Asian Spa and Gentleman Spa (for pure relaxation), Fit & Fun and Mental Training (a place to relax on the Zen Panorama Terrace).  The Spa is open daily from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 2:30pm to 7.30pm, advance booking for treatments is recommended. Please note the spa is not open to children under 17 years of age.

      Swimming Pools: The indoor heated pool and outdoor whirlpool offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Dolomites and provide the perfect place to relax tired muscles after a day on the slopes or mountain biking. There are relaxing heated hammocks on the outdoor deck from which guests can soak up the views. There is also a separate children’s area with its own dedicated kids pool.

      Gym & Fitness Studio: The Castello Gym includes a wide range of equipment and guests are also welcome to join in the cardio-fitness programmes which includes circuit training, gymnastics, Pilates and Hip Hop Dance.

      Activities: The hotel also provides a superb weekly activity programme which includes guided hikes and mountain bike tours, a climbing school, Nordic walking. In winter, the owner Werner Call leads guided ski safaris and the hotel runs a weekly fun ski race for all ages.

      Internet Access: There is free WiFi throughout the hotel.

    • Hiking: Based on a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the resort provides fantastic hiking links into the Dolomites, fondly known as one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world.

      Golf: The resort is located a short drive away from a number of top-notch golf courses, including the Golf Club Pustertal, the Golf Facility in Lienz and the Corvara Golf Course – with guests of the Excelsior able to claim discount at several courses.

      Spa: The resort prides itself on its exceptional spa facilities, which include a herbal bio sauna, a Finnish sauna, herbal steam bath, salt brine inhalation grotto, tepidarium loungers and an indoor pool.

      Mountain biking: A must-visit for budding mountain bikers, the resort has a number of mountainside trails, including a stage of the Giro d’Italia race, which sees elite riders competing.

      Winter sports: In addition to its fantastic ski links, the resort offers great access to cross country skiing, winter hiking, sledging and ice skating activities.

    • When to Travel

      The Excelsior is open year round. However the winter ski season generally runs from mid December to early April. From early June to late September guests can enjoy a summer break in the mountains. The mountain flowers usually start to bloom in late June.

      Location and Directions

      The Hotel Excelsior is located at an altitude of 1,200m on the quiet fringes of San Vigilio di Marebbe in the Badia Valley, just five minutes walk from the village centre.  Surrounded by Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park  in the South Tyrol Dolomites, the region has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

      The Excelsior boasts skiing virtually to and from the doorstep on the Kronplatz, which connects to the superb Sellaronda ski area. In summer the area is a renown haven for mountain bikers offering trails to suit all levels. Hikers will also be spoilt for choice with a myriad of trails to choose from.

      How to get there:

      British Airways and Swiss have scheduled flights to Innsbruck airport. It is then approx. 1 hour 50 minutes private or shared transfer to the hotel

      Alternatively there are a number of low cost airlines such as Ryanair, Easyjet and Monarch flying to Innsbruck or Bolzano airport which is approx. 1 hour 45 minutes transfer from the hotel.
