Hotel Gotthard

Lech-Am-Arlberg, Tyrol / Austria / Austria Ski

Like many resorts in the Austrian Alps, the Gotthard leads a double life. By winter it is the perfect base for ski enthusiasts, while in summer it becomes a haven for those seeking a taste of the great outdoors in the surrounding meadows and winding hiking paths. Whatever the season, this four-story, Tyrolean-style chalet will delight those seeking a traditional alpine escape.

The warm welcome from the Walch family exudes an intimacy that is only accentuated by the décor of each of the 56 bedrooms. Pine panelling and traditional fabrics are the order of the day, with carved wooden balconies looking out over the imposing majesty of the Austrian Alps. On the outside, wooden shutters and huge timber beams hark back to its 75 year history of entertaining guests.

The Gotthard’s in-house bakery is reason enough to visit this charming resort, and it’s impossible to describe the sensation of waking up to the aroma of freshly-baked bread each morning. The adjoining café is a perfect place to indulge in a mid-afternoon cake on the terrace garden, while the restaurant serves up a sumptuous four-course meal each evening. Be sure to sample the mouth-watering cheese board and take your pick from the excellent selection of wine in their impressive cellar.

The spacious 100m2 wellbeing spa offers everything you could require for a day off the mountainside. This newly renovated part of the hotel includes an indoor swimming pool with an integrated whirlpool, three saunas and a well-equipped gym. Aches and strains are par for the course for a true alpine explorer, so it would be foolish not to try out one of the range of massage treatments, including hot stones and foot reflexology. Even restless children should be able to keep themselves entertained in the ‘Children’s World’, which comes fully stocked with toys.

There is always the option of enjoying a warm drink while basking in the sunshine in the quaint garden. As evenings close in, the fire in the bar lounge will look increasingly inviting, and forms a great focal point from which to reminisce about the day’s events.

When to travel:
Winter season, December to April, when the area is covered in a blanket of snow, this is a skiers paradise.
Summer season, late June to early September, is ideal for that peaceful escape into the beautiful scenery of summer in the mountains.

Hotel Gotthard enjoys a central village location, only 2 minutes walk from the Rufikopf lift. Private or shared transfers will take 1 hour 15min from Innsbruck Airport or 2 hours from Zurich Airport to Lech.
