Caught between the rocky mountain range above and the topaz waters of the Gulf of Oman, the secluded Zighy Bay sits on a peaceful and idyllic beach stretch of the Musandam Peninsula. Built using natural stone and warm woods, Six Senses’ private villas combine primitive Omani beauty with plush furnishings and opulent features. With a number of differently styled and sized villas, all feature a personal sand garden, outdoor patio and private pool, while some are designed with higher stone clad walls for extra privacy or incredible beach proximity. Interconnecting villas are also available for families and groups.

The Six Senses resort is particularly accommodating for travelling families, with both the Chaica’s Club and Teen Club organising a huge list of activities and excursions for younger guests. A babysitting service is also available for particularly young families.

The resort prizes itself on its variety when it comes to dining. Venues such as the Summer House and Zighy Bar are perfectly suited for a crisp lunch, light afternoon bite or afternoon cocktail (or mocktail for younger guests), each with an outdoor setting surrounded by swaying palm trees. Come the evening, guests have the tough decision of a range of restaurants serving a mix of traditional Arabian dishes, international classics or an authentic spice kitchen. The food doesn’t always take centre stage, though, with dining settings including a chef’s table, overlooking the clear waters of the Gulf of Oman or sitting underneath the gaze of the mountains.

As though Zighy Bay weren’t tranquil enough, the Six Senses Spa adds an extra ounce of zen for all guests of the resort. Employing a mix of locally inspired treatments, Asian therapies and holistic treatments, visitors can rely on the resort’s trained professionals and wellness advisors for a truly rejuvenating experience, be it a massage, facial, bath ritual or body polish.

When to Travel

The best time to visit Oman is between November and mid-March, when the cooler air brings the mountain scenery sharply into focus and daytime temperatures average 25°C. Between May and August the weather is very hot and hazy reaching a peak between July and August when it is very hot and humid, however hotel rates are often heavily discounted making this a good value time to visit.

Ramadan and religious festivals such as Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha, are strictly adhered to outside of the resorts in Oman. Whilst you will notice little difference in the resort during your stay,  there are usually restrictions on where and when alcohol can be consumed during these periods.

Location

Zighy Bay is situated near a small fishing village on the Musandam Peninsula. This region of stunning natural beauty, is one of the least visited areas of Oman. Spectacular mountain peaks form the backdrop to the beaches and deep inlets which are often compared to the Norwegian fjords. The Gulf of Oman here is teaming with marine life making it a superb place for diving whilst the rugged terrain plays host to a wealth of activities.

Although in Oman, the closest International airport to Zighy Bay is in fact Dubai International Airport at 120km (two hours by private car) to the resort. On the approach to resort, guests also have the option to tandem paraglide into the resort from a rocky mountain peak or to ride into the resort on a 15 minute speedboat ride from Dibba Port.
