What to love

  • Stylish boutique ski hotel, offering chic accommodation and every high-tech comfort.
  • Achingly modern interiors lend every room a sense of French chic.
  • Relax with a drink by the fire in the effortlessly cool bar area.
  • Pampering: the spa centre offers a sauna, heated indoor pool, jazuzzi and beauty salon.

What to know

  • This is a self-consciously ultra-modern, fashionable hotel. Those looking for a more traditional alpine chalet feel should consider other hotels.
  • The hotel does not have a direct view of the mountains.
  • In the heart of Val D’isere, a short walk to the lifts and ski school meeting points.
  • All rooms come equipped with a DVD, WiFi and flatscreen TV in the bathroom.

Situated on the main Avenue Olympique that runs through the heart of the resort, the 54 room Avenue Lodge is only a few minutes’ stroll from both the ski lifts and Val d'Isère’s famous shopping boutiques. From the moment you set foot into this unique building it’s clear that you are experiencing the next stage in contemporary alpine accommodation.

Architect Jean-Philippe Nuel’s minimalist design oozes continental class, marrying traditional alpine textures and colours with modern sensibilities. Antlers and cowhide share wall space with atmospheric lighting to imbue each room with an innate sense of Gallic chic. Take your pick from the standard rooms, interconnected spaces for families, or larger open plan suites that offer a view of the bustling avenue below or the Joseray Valley.

With its candle lit atmosphere, sauna and jacuzzi, the hotel’s spa centre offers the perfect opportunity to unwind after a long day on the slopes. Reluctant skiers can take advantage of the massage service to ease themselves into holiday mode, or relax with a magazine in the hair and beauty salon while enjoying one of the face and body Caritan treatments. There’s even the option of whiling away an afternoon in the heated swimming pool if you just want to enjoy a day out of your ski boots.

It’s in the evenings when the Lodge really comes into its own. You can watch shoppers trudge home through the snow from the comfort of the restaurant while enjoying the finest French cuisine, or thaw out in front of the fire with a well-earned drink in the bar lounge area.

Avenue Lodge is the perfect ski hotel: not only a base from which to savour the delights of the Alps, but a stunning resort in its own right. Like the snow that blankets the mountain peaks all year round, once you’ve settled you won’t want to leave.

When to travel:

Ski Season: Late November – Early May

Early December: Val d’Isere hosts the annual ‘first race of the season’ known as the Criterium de la Premiere Neige (which translates as the Race of the first snow fall). The event sees the world’s top skiers compete in downhill, Super G and Slalom races.

Summer Season: Late June – Early September

June: La Fete de la Musique celebrates the Summer Solstice every year. This free event spills out of the bars and restaurants into the streets where visitors are treated to live music from classical musicians to club DJs.

The Avenue Lodge is in a great central location in the heart of Val d'Isere, just a 5 minute walk from the pistes, the main lift stations and ski school meeting points.

A private or shared transfer will take 2hr 45mins for the 180km journey to Val D’Isere from Geneva. Alternative airports include Lyon, Grenoble (both approx. 3hrs 00mins transfer) or Chambery (1hr 45mins transfer).
