Located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area, the Hotel des Dromonts is a legendary address. The first hotel to be opened in the revolutionary traffic-free ski resort of Avoriaz, the hotel is now under the expert management of The Sibuet hotel group. Lovingly renovated by Jocelyne Sibuet to take visitors back to its 1960‘s roots, she has cleverly combined vintage style with modern comfort.
The hotel was originally designed to resemble a pine cone and the interior features arches and sloping floors to enable guests to benefit from the views of the surrounding mountains. In the 1970s and 80s des Dromonts played host to an annual festival of “fantasy films” attracting directors such as Luc Besson, David Cronenberg, Brian de Palma, David Lynch and Steven Spielberg. Photographs of these famous visitors adorn the walls of the Festival Bar, a popular slope side lunch spot and good place to unwind before dinner.
The Les Enfants Terribles restaurant (in-keeping with the Sibuet properties in Megeve and Val Thorens) serves delicious French cuisine in an avant garde setting reminiscent of the festival period and is named after Jean Pierre Melville’s film based on Jean Cocteau (a regular visitor to the Sibuet Group’s flagship Megeve property in the 1950s).
The Pure Altitude Spa, reached by a mirror adorned staircase, provides a welcome addition for guests who want to relax and recharge their tired muscles after a day on the slopes complete with indoor and outdoor hot tubs, a sauna and steam room and a myriad of beauty and pampering treatments.
With its superb ski-in ski-out position and new look, the Hotel des Dromonts is once again set to becoming the leading place to stay in the Portes du Soleil.
